POSITION: Administrative Assistant (Confidential Employee) Fall River Retirement Board

Reports to: Retirement Board Executive Director

Summary of Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director performs responsible administrative and operational functions in accordance with policies set by the Fall River Contributory Retirement Board in accordance with Chapter 32 and related laws. Exercises discretion and judgment in communicating with the general membership both orally and written.

Responsibilities:

Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of record maintenance and review.

Provides information to members regarding their retirement rights and benefits.

 Performs calculation of retirement allowances.

 Assists with the preparation of the systems financial reporting obligations to PERAC and the retirement system membership.

 Prepares yearly member financial statements, 1099R’s and end of year data entry procedures.

 Maintains accurate member and retiree data base as well as manual records, prepares new member’s files, enters into data base, requests transfer of funds when appropriate, follows through with transfers and other pertinent details.

 Prepares and processes staff, retiree, refund, transfer and expense payrolls, checks and warrants.

 Maintains records including, but not limited to, filing and archiving retirement system documents and records.

 Attend educational meetings/seminars as required.

 Performs all other duties as assigned related to the administration and/or operational function of a MA Contributory Retirement System.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 Working knowledge of Chapter 32 retirement system requirements, preferable.

 Related experience in public retirement systems and/or benefits administration preferable.

 Working knowledge of data base systems and spreadsheets.

 Working knowledge of word processing.

 Ability to maintain confidentiality in all assignments.

WORKING CONDITIONS – Office setting with:

 Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

 Ability to perform administrative duties, typing, filing, bending over to low files, reaching high files.

 Ability to sit for extended time periods.

 Ability to express and exchange ideas by means of written and spoken word.

WORK SCHEDULE: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.

EQUIPMENT USED: Telephone, photocopier, fax, computer, printer, calculator, scanners, and others equipment as required.

STARTING SALARY: $32,000 with health, life and other benefits.
